General Motors and Samsung SDI to Build $3 Billion EV Battery Plant in Indiana
General Motors (GM) and Samsung SDI are teaming up to build a more than $3 billion electric vehicle battery cell plant in New Carlisle, Indiana.
The plant, located near South Bend, will create 1,700 manufacturing jobs and support the production of GM's upcoming EVs. Operations at the joint-venture plant are scheduled to start in 2026. The project has received tax incentives from the St. Joseph County Council, making it the largest development in the area. GM aims to have the capacity to manufacture over 1 million EVs in North America by 2025, and this facility will contribute to that goal by producing nickel-rich prismatic and cylindrical cells with a capacity of more than 30 gigawatt hours.
